In current years firewood burning stoves have become increasingly popular. With energy costs on the rise, people are trying to find more ways to cut the costs of heating their homes. Not only are burners great for your pocket, but they also make a great feature for your home.

However, choosing to purchase a firewood burner requires careful consideration. Here at The Green Olive Firewood Company, we have put together some of the things you need to consider before buying.

Where do you live?

If you live in a city or town, it is crucial to check if you live in a smoke control area. You can easily find this out by contacting your local authority, if you find yourself in one you will be able to burn DEFRA-approved smokeless fuel, meaning burning firewood won’t be an option. On the other hand, if you do want to burn firewood, you will need to buy a DEFRA-exempt stove. Click here to find a list of manufacturers and suppliers that are approved.

Stoves require air for combustion to work. In older homes, this never tends to be an issue. Whereas in modern homes that are well insulated it is a little trickier if you do have an airtight house; find a model that provides air to the stove externally, as some only provide an air source that is drawn from within the room.

Fire wood Stove: Why Install One?

Not only is a wood stove an eco-friendly way to heat your home it is also carbon neutral. Another positive is using electricity to heat your home can be expensive. Though the initial instalment of a burner stove may be expensive it will save you money in the long run.

Where Are You Getting Your Wood Fuel?

Before you make your final decision on whether to purchase a wood-burning stove, you need to know where you plan on getting your supply of wood fuel. You may choose to plan out your year ahead by buying your firewood in bulk to season the logs yourself (air dry), but this will require storage space that most people don’t have.
